The epicenter was located 56 miles northeast of Tarata, Tacna, Peru, and 45 miles northeast of San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta, Chile. Strongest Earthquake in Years

This earthquake is the largest to hit Chile in 45 years. The previous largest earthquake occurred in 1976 and had a magnitude of 7.8.
